Gram Telephone Exchange

Here is a fantastic picture from 1936 showing the lifeblood of Gram, namely the telephone centre with the two conversion ladies, and the manager to the far right, miss Ellen Kohl, who was the daughter of the old stationmaster kohl on Gram Central Station.

At that time there were wires out to all subscribers. If
you wanted to contact people, you turned on the phone cranks and the central lady asked, who you would like to talk to. She then put ones plug into the board, and one was then connected with the desired person. If one wanted to talk to someone from the neighboring town, the center in Gram called the other towns center and connected the subscriber with the neighboring center, who then arranged for further connection. It was also possible to have a chat with the customers, and if necessary, ask about what kind of stuff that has happened in the town and around recently

The automation didn’t come until first in the fifties,
And the large telephone exchange by the post office was built.
